Seeing is Believing: Paula’s Visit (You, Too, Are Invited)

When people learn about Rethink Africa, or the Food for School initiative, they’re touched. Some are moved to tears when they watch our videos, or attend our events. They want to help. They care. But, then, doubts start to creep in.  Are things really that bad?  Yes, they are! And the best way to find out is to visit.  I’m grateful to those who have visited to see things for themselves, befriended the people, and spread the word. One of them is Paula. She saw the students. She met the families. She saw the environment. Not only did she see the poverty, she felt it. She felt the pain and excruciating hardship of the people. She shed tears. She cried a few times. She was overwhelmed. She wished she could bring the innocent, but terribly impoverished children with her to the U.S.! However, she adopted the Hounkpatin family and sponsors their daughter’s medical training. Thank you, Paula, for your visit and support!

Below are some of the pictures from her trip. You, too, dear supporters, are invited. A warm welcome awaits you. The people may be poor, but they’re loving, warm, and welcoming. Come and make new friends in Africa!

For me, this is the highlight of Paula’s visit.  “Silver and gold I have not, but I give you my chicken to take to America.” Don’t laugh! Well . . . Ok, you may laugh. But this is a profound story of gratitude. The Hounkpatin family are so grateful for Paula’s kindnesses, they wouldn’t know how to thank her. They feel humbled and overwhelmed! So, the father decided to offer Paula their most valued asset (their chicken) as a token of their appreciation.
